We are learning all of our states, capitals and abbreviations this year in 5th grade. This will be assessed through weekly quizzes. The first quizzes will be taken on notebook paper and will be over all capitals by region. We will end this assignment with a test over all fifty capitals.
We will then go back through the regions, and students will be tested on knowing the location of all states on a blank map. On these tests, the students will write the abbreviation of the state and the capital. During these assessments we will cover the same five regions. We will end this assignment with a blank numbered map of the United States. Each student will write the abbreviation of the state and the capital.
Please help your child with this very important life skill and assessed skill in any way you can! You can make flash cards or even purchase flash cards. You can place a wall map in their bedroom or bathroom. Please take the time to quiz them throughout the week and each Thursday evening for their quiz on Friday.
