Hi Scholars, Parents, Friends, and Family! My name is Mrs. Hutchens and I am so excited to be your 5th grade teacher for ELA and social studies during the 2020-2021 school year.
I was born and raised just outside of Flint, Michigan and moved to Tennessee to in order to attend Middle Tennessee State University. I received a Bachelor of Science in Psychology in 2014 and moved to Nashville to begin a career in community mental health and social work. During that time, I also volunteered with the Regional Intervention Program (RIP), a behavior modification program for children with behavioral disorders and learning disabilities. Although I loved working with families in the community, I saw a huge need for teachers, mentors, and leaders in the classroom. This eventually led me to pursue my childhood dream of becoming a teacher.
I moved to Memphis to attend The University of Memphis and quickly found myself to be at home. I completed my student teaching in a 2nd grade classroom at White Station Elementary and graduated from the U of M with a master's degree in teaching. This is my second year teaching at Macon-Hall and I am so thankful to have landed here. 💙
In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my family, reading, traveling, and watching football (Go Detroit Lions), baseball (Go Detroit Tigers) and basketball (Go Grizzlies). My husband and I love to attend University of Memphis basketball games to cheer on our Tigers! On the weekends you can find me hanging out with my dogs, Sadie and Tobin, or shopping around Target.
A “fun fact” about me: My daughter, Kenna, was born on my birthday, May 29th, at 5:29pm. ☺️
I am looking forward to getting to know each of your scholars as we learn together and have some fun along the way. We are going to have a great year!
